Topology and Ring Theory: A Love Story

Alex Milbrand - 11/15/19

Abstract: The set of prime ideals of a commutative ring can be endowed with a topology, and in fact is a compact space. If we restrict to looking at the subspace of minimal prime ideals, Min(R), we can no longer guarantee compactness. In this talk, we prove a theorem which gives equivalent conditions to Min(R) compact that involve annihilators. This talk should be very accessible to all levels of graduate and upper level undergraduate students.
